Who Should Attend:

Parents, Teachers, School Staff, Youth Group Leaders, Out of School Staff, Coaches, Camp Counselors, Direct Care Workers, Grandparents, Law Enforcement, Anyone who works with or supports youth!

Why Youth Mental Health First Aid?

Youth Mental Health First Aid(YMHFA)identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. This 6-hour training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages
6-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

What You Will Learn

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness in this age group, including:
    • Anxiety
    • Depression
    • Eating disorders
    • Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)
    • Common signs and symptoms of substance use
  • How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis
  • How to connect the person with help
  • New: Expanded content on trauma, addiction and self-care and the impact of social media and bullying

Blended Virtual: What to Expect

Prior to this virtual live instructor led session, attendees will receive information to access the Mental Health Connect Learning Platform where they will complete 2-hours of self paced learning materials which must be completed prior to participation in the live, instructor-led video workshop.

Ashley Deason, BA

Meraki Institute of Learning

For Ashley, the Community has always been a passion. She believes by training others in YMHFA she is assisting to break the stigma of mental health and providing awareness on how to approach and respond to others that may experience a mental health challenge or crisis. Ashley believes that every person can have a positive impact and this training offers the knowledge and tools to offer supportive responses and interactions with others

Marion Jacobs, MS

Meraki Institute of Learning

Marion has long-term experience in the mental health and human service field. Marion is a certified trainer in Adverse Childhood Expereinces (ACEs) and Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Marion has also received additional trainings including ASIST suicide first aid. Marion believes continued learning and growth helps her to better support others in offering assistance and achieving best outcomes during times of struggle or crisis.

Marion has her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Speech/Drama from Mount Mercy University and her Master of Science in General Psychology from Walden University. 

Marion serves as an inpatient counselor for the Tanager Place Inpatient program
