What to Expect

Children’s connections to their caregivers vastly impact brain development, ability to regulate, and relationships throughout their lifetimes.

Assisting children and families to build positive connections and attachments in childhood helps improve current functioning and future mental health.

In this workshop, participants will learn about attachment theory, assessing attachment, and how to apply attachment theory to clients and their parents when conceptualizing play therapy clients.

Additionally, they will learn about multiple modalities of family play therapy, including Filial Therapy and Theraplay®, which can help build and/or repair attachment wounds and build connection between children and caregivers. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice utilizing techniques they will be able to use in play therapy sessions and walk away with practical interventions they can use with their own clients

Workshop Learning Objectives

After attending this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  1. Discuss the history of attachment research and utilize attachment theory to conceptualize clients family play therapy
  2. Analyze how early childhood experiences impact brain development and attachment in the context of family and family play therapy
  3. Describe play therapy assessment techniques to assess how trauma and/or attachment disruptions can impact ability to build and maintain relationships with others
  4. Discuss family play model Filial Therapy and techniques and apply them to client needs
  5. Discuss family play model Theraplay® and techniques to use for Theraplay®-informed practice and apply them to client needs
  6. Demonstrate and practice application of family play therapy skills and techniques and assisting parents in applying these skills at home

Cancellation & Refund Policy

All attendee cancellation/refund requests should be submitted by email to merakiinstitute@tanagerplace.org.

For a full refund, request must be received no later than 7 calendar days prior to workshop/event date.

Partial Refunds will be issued for requests sent less than 7 calendar days prior to workshop/event date. Partial refund is considered a refund of the registration fee minus administrative fees outlined below:

  • $25 administrative fee for a half-day workshop
  • $50 administrative fee for a full-day workshop
  • $75 administrative fee for 2-day workshop

No refund will be issued for any requests not received at least 24 hours before the event start time.

Meraki Institute Cancellation & Rescheduling Notice

Meraki Institute of Learning at Tanager Place reserves the right to cancel/postpone an event due to insufficient enrollment. Meraki Institute of Learning will email registered attendees at least 5 calendar days before event date to notify of the cancellation/postponement. Registered attendees will be provided the option to transfer enrollment to future event date or receive a full refund.

Meraki Institute of Learning at Tanager Place reserves the right to cancel/postpone an event due to inclement weather, instructor illness or instructor family emergency. In the event this occurs, registered attendees will receive e-mail notification before event start time. Meraki Institute of Learning at Tanager Place will send email notification to registered attendees within 10days of cancelled event to announce rescheduled event date. Attendees will be provided the option to transfer enrollment to future event or receive a full refund.
